The use of paper to create three dimensional forms
Sometimes experiments with materials can bring surprising results. Carving into tightly rolled tubes of paper brought interesting layers to light. When cut into various lengths they took on abstract human forms. North American Indians would create blankets covered with intricate forms and patterns. The observer was expected to quietly contemplate the patterns and wait for the hidden story to reveal itself. I felt the same about these groups of figures. Some of their layers are newspapers which carry their own stories but are hidden away. If you study them, what might they tell you ?
